Excellent Resource

Sifu Bud brought a copy of this book to the Inosanto Academy yesterday morning. Guro Dan was impressed with the content, and showed it to the class. This book is not intended to be a how-to book, or "Learn Kung Fu in 10 Easy Lessons" book. Sifu Bruce wrote about his own disdain for those kinds of works, and yesterday even Guro Dan commented on the book as a graet supplement to actual training, rather than a substitute for it.
Sifu Bud is Guro Dan's oldest student and this book is testament to his years of training notes. It is well organized and extremely comprehensive. I have been training at the Inosanto Academy for the last 8 years, and this document contains information that Guro Dan has taught during that time as well as much more information from the decades before. I can only give my personal opinion but as a student and instructor under Guro Dan Inosanto I felt the need to share them, in light of the first review.

Excellent resource

I just received this in the mail today. All it took was a glance to know this is exactly what I was looking for in a manual of this type. I read the other reviews before purchasing and I have to say the negative review is just plain wrong. It is obvious that this person has never trained with either Dan Inosanto, Richard Bustillo or Tom Barell. If he/she had the review would have been different. Its not a book to read or even a how to, its notes, lists and reminders along with some awesome historical information. I've been taking notes for years and my note book is very close to this one, except for this one being much more refined and with tons of information I just don't have.

Instructors Confidential Manual Supplemental Handbook

As several others have said already, this IS NOT a "how to" book. Nor is it meant to serve as an introduction to JKD or FMA. Rather it is more of a reference manual meant to supplement training. It can be a valuable resource to the advanced student or instructor.
My biggest disappointment, however, is with the way the book was organized. It would have been better, imho, if the author had put all of the Jun Fan/JKD stuff in one section and the Filipino Martial Arts stuff in another. Instead he goes back and forth. I have even noticed in a number of cases, the information given on one page can be found elsewhere, word for word. This could have been avoided had the book been better organized. There were a couple of other minor issues I had, but I won't bother mentioning them, as I don't feel they should affect whether one purchases this book or not.
Overall, this is a wonderful book for anyone serious about these arts. I recommend it, but please know what you are purchasing. It is called the Intructors Confidential Manual Supplemental Hand Book for a reason. This is not intended to teach you these arts. I would have given it a 5 star review if not for the organization of the material.
